The List of Holiday Lights 2012

Back then, this just meant driving around miscellaneous neighborhoods to see the modest colored or white lights adorning individual homeowner’s lawns. These days, like most things, holiday lights have gone extreme, and municipalities, parks, and even amusement parks have gotten into the spirit.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania: Today’s Girl Scouts, Tomorrow’s Leaders
Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) is Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting by looking towards the future with 21st Century Scouting Opportunities for Girls!
This year marks Girl Scouts’ 100th Anniversary of being the premier leadership organization for girls. Over the past century, girls across the world have accepted the Girl Scout Promise and Law and grown up to be leaders today. With 80 percent of all female business owners in the United States and 70 percent of all women in Congress having been a Girl Scout, it’s clear that when it comes to female empowerment and leadership development, no one beats the Girl Scouts! Locally, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) is the state’s largest girl-serving organization and remains dedicated to helping girls reach their fullest potential.
Although its history spans a century, Girl Scouts is anything but outdated. GSEP has evolved with the times and provides exciting and relevant programming for its 41,000 Scouts across eastern Pennsylvania. Whether you are an artist, have a passion for sports or dream of being a scientist or engineer, GSEP can provide the resources necessary for young women to discover more about themselves, connect with others and grow into true leaders! GSEP recognizes what is important to girls today, and is committed in the following ways to meeting these needs so that all girls may participate:
- Flexibility. In today’s world, it’s hard to find a moment of down time. That’s why GSEP offers series and event opportunities where a Scout is not affiliated with a troop but
can weave the Girl Scouts into her schedule. Through events and programming, GSEP provides girls the opportunity to create their own scouting experience and build the character and skills necessary to be successful in today’s world. GSEP offers activities for just girls, and others that welcome friends and families, too!
GSEP’s priority programs include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Outdoor, Leadership, Environment, and Entrepreneurship. Programs are offered through troop, series, events and travel, providing diverse avenues of exposure to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. GSEP programming engages girls to achieve short-term and intermediate outcomes including the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to succeed in school, the workplace, and life in the 21st Century. Program schedules are available at www.gsep.org.
- Environmentalism. GSEP’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. That’s why GSEP maintains a commitment to teaching its Scouts about science and environmentalism. Through year-round camping, outdoor programs and summer camp, girls learn about nature and the environment, how to interact in more meaningful ways with their surroundings and ways to participate in healthy physical activities. From the traditional to the whimsical to the extreme, your perfect GSEP camp exists! Visit www.gsep.org for a complete schedule of 2013 summer camps.
- Engaging Experiences. GSEP 21st Century Scouting encourages girls to dream big for their future. From trips across the world to introduction to new career fields, GSEP provides a fun, accepting and nurturing environment where girls can discover their voice, connect with one another and take action in their communities. Through the Girl Scouts destinations program, you can learn independence, relationship-building, leadership skills, decision making, and team building, while traveling to new and exciting places. Through other Girl Scouts programs like cookie sales, you’ll develop imperative skill sets like financial literacy, business ethics, goal setting, money management, people skills and decision-making to help you achieve your future goals. We’ve also evolved to include learning programs like STEM that promote girl leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, while maintaining the timeless values of building girls of courage, confidence and character.
Don’t hesitate to get involved in our programming for the modern girl! Visit us at www.gsep.org to join today!
