This program is family-oriented and designed to teach basic fishing skills, safety, technique, outdoor manners, rod rigging, watershed education, and more for freshwater fishing in PA. This is a great opportunity to ask the experts for advice, learn about the environment, spend quality time with your family, and try to catch the elusive Alameda Trout!

Autumn Hawkwatch                    Aug. 15-Dec. 15, 2010, 8 am-5 pm            Kempton, Berks County

 

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is one of the best places in the northeastern U.S. to watch the annual hawk migration, one of nature's greatest wildlife spectacles.  Each year, an average of 20,000 hawks, eagles, and falcons pass the Sanctuary's North Lookout and are identified and counted.  Bring binoculars and scan the sky.

Tyler’s 1,400-square-foot Butterfly House and Garden exhibit is filled with native butterflies in all stages of their life cycles.Get up-close-and-personal with native monarchs, great spangled fritillaries, painted ladies and swallowtails.The exhibit is a rich educational resource and features extensive plantings that feed both butterflies and caterpillars.

 

Scent-sational Herbs         Sep. 25, 2010, 10 am               Bellefonte, Centre County

As part of the Bellefonte Community Children's Garden's 2010 growing season events, kids can come explore the beautiful, organic garden and learn about herbs! Open to kids of all ages and their favorite adults.  Free.  Registrations appreciated but not required.

 

Butterflies at Hershey       May 28 - Sept 12, 2010   9AM-5PM   Hershey, Lancaster County

Walk amid hundreds of butterflies as they emerge from their cocoons at Hershey Gardens in time for the holiday weekend. The gardens' newly rebuilt Butterfly House opens for the season Friday, May 28th.  Visitors take a horseshoe-shaped path through the enclosure as more than 200 free-flying butterflies from 20 to 30 North American species dine on nectar-producing plants.

Late summer is one of the best times to look for one of the most popular groups of insects; butterflies. Join us as we stroll through the nature center’s Wildlife Gardens to observe these flying jewels, while discussing their fascinating life histories. Time: 2:00pm - $2.00 per person
